History Meme | Pairings (1/7) - Anne Bonny & Mary Read

Arguably the most famous female pirates in history, Bonny and Read met up in 1720 when Read joined pirate Calico Jack, who Bonny had already taken up with.

The pairing of the great pirate duo didn’t last long, as that same year their ship was captured, and along with Calico Jack, Bonny and Read were sentenced to hang for piracy. Both women had a stay of execution due to the fact that they were both pregnant.

Read died in prison the next year, while Bonny disappeared from public record. One story is that she was rescued by her family and lived a long life in Colonial America.
